Glory of the Empire trivia: card design, misprints, etc.

Friday, January 23rd, 2009
  • Glory of the Empire is the first full expansion to feature the new card designs introduced with The Imperial Gift, Part I.  This is the second major card face change which Legend of the Five Rings has undergone — the first was introduced with Pearl Edition, changing from the original very busy-looking design which had been with the cards since Imperial Edition to a cleaner look that relied on color rather than design elements.  The card backs remain the same as they have since they were changed for The Spirit Wars expansion, a consequence of the International Olympic Committee’s fiat legislation controlling the use of “five interlocking rings” as a logo.
  • There are two cards with misprinted rarities in this expansion:  Unworthy Rivals, which appears in the uncommon slot in booster packs, was printed with a common card symbol; and Kitsuki Tsuboko, which appears in the rare slot in booster packs and starter decks, was printed with an uncommon symbol.  The rarity of these cards is confirmed by both pack position and relative scarcity after opening a multitude of boxes, and they are listed in search under their correct rarities.  Each card has notes regarding the misprinted rarity symbols.
  • Glory of the Empire is the first expansion for retail sale that includes no foil cards since The Spirit Wars.

Once again, we are offering common and uncommon card sets for sale for this expansion, enabling you to pick up all 50 commons or uncommons in one discounted transaction. Clan of the Month/Ultimate Clan Pack card sets in short supply

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

After the holiday sales and some additional pre-Kotei shopping, the supply of Clan of the Month/Ultimate Clan Pack card sets is greatly depleted — we’re out of five out of the nine clans’ card sets, and only managed to get a restock one set of the Crab cards.  If these are restocked at all, it will likely be at a higher price due to scarcity and demand, so if you have any interest in the remaining clans, now is the time to buy.

Pre-selling Glory of the Empire common and uncommon sets

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

Like the post title says, if you want to order common and uncommon card sets for Glory of the Empire, the next L5R expansion (and first expansion which will be legal for the Celestial Edition arc), feel free to order. These are pre-ordered items, and will not ship until the release of the expansion later in the month. If you order other cards at the same time, they will ship together with your pre-ordered items.

You can still save money, as all Samurai-legal rare cards are discounted up to 66% from their normal price, with many rares at $1 each or even below. This general sale price should last until at least the release of the upcoming Glory of the Empire expansion.

Tenth Day of Christmas L5R Sale: 25% off all foils

Saturday, January 3rd, 2009

Only a few days left, but for the Tenth Day of Christmas, we hope you can find a place for all the glittering and shining objects. Of course, we’re talking about foil cards, regardless of edition. For today, January 3rd, only, all foil cards are 25% off their normal price. In some cases, this may make foils cheaper than their non-foil versions — so be it!

At or around Midnight on 1/3, this sale will disappear, and be replaced with another.

Eighth and Ninth Days of Christmas: Free Priority Shipping over $50

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

Happy New Year from DocAngst.com to all our loyal customers! Due to an oversight, the Eighth Day sale was not posted to the news site, so it has been extended into the Ninth Day.

On the Eighth and Ninth Days of Christmas, we’re bringing something special to you. For our domestic customers, Priority Mail is a free, no-cost upgrade option on all orders over $50 placed on 1/1/09 or 1/2/09. We can’t offer the same deal to our international buyers, but just so they don’t feel left out, on 1/1/09 or 1/2/09, we are offering free shipping for orders $50 and over (normally that threshhold is $100 and over for international orders).

This shipping offer will expire on or around Midnight on January 2nd and be replaced with a new sale.
